One of my best friends said that to me today... He said... "stef lets be real" Thing is I don't know how I can be "real" with him about my summer. Thats what everyone is talking about... there summers. Do you really want me to be real with you? Or do you want me to just say I have been fine. Do you want to know how I really feel? Or do you want me to just say its ok? Even if you want to know, maybe I cant tell you. Or maybe you wont react well to what I do tell you. Maybe we could just not talk about our summers, just move forward.
Is that an option?

Hi Hun....I am afraid that what you are experiencing is called 'growing up' and because you are an exceptional young lady, you may grow 'past' your existing friends...too fast!
I learned a long time ago (and I am at least 30 years older than you Stef) that when People ask "How are you?" sometimes it is just an expression, and no, they really don't want to know the whole story?
Have you ever learned another language (I attempted Spanish, in Grade School) and one of the first 'expressions' you learn is "How are you?" Well, you will learn something called decernment (spelling) and you will know, by gut instinct, who really wants to know.
You may even find you will change friends? That is not a horrible thing. You change, & you grow, and sometimes, you must change your friends, too?
{{{HUGS}}} Sweetie, hang in. It is hard to be a 'extraordinary' individual, I know! LOL! N.Mc.
i agree stef, some ask how your day was but they really don't want to know. that's not true for all though, some truly do care.
just trust your gut feelings (that what i always tell my boys, am i now being a mother? LOL). you are smart enough to know who really means it and who doesn't.
hope things are going well. when do classes start?
Yeah. Sharing emotions is like visiting a different culture. I can't really share mine about caregiving with non-caregivers.
As everyone else said, I don't think they really want to know the truth. Can you imagine someone asking "What did you do today?" and me actually telling them. LOL, they would probably never ask again.
ugg :( I guess your right. They don't want to know the real truth. I am just gonna wait for them to stop asking. :( I just get sick of lying.
Stef,
Sometimes people just talk to hear themselves talk. I agree with Skygirl....you might have to find you a new set of friends. So people don't understand what sickness is about...Just know that I am here for you...my little buddy
