sickness update

I felt wore this morning so I made myself do it. I went to the health center and course there was not much to be said. They thought it was mono, so I had to pay 6 dollars for them to figure out it was not. She said it was not strep. Then she asked the big one, "how is your life going? Are you eating well, sleeping well, and not to greatly stress?" I said "ummmm" for about 25 seconds before I said "a little" Basically she yelled at me for 1. not coming in sooner and 2. for not taking good care of myself. Then she sent me out there with the only advice to sleep, eat, drink, take 2 alive twice a day, and mucinex. Why was it I had to come in earlier for someone to tell me that again?

idk I feel really crappy even with the prescription strength alive dosage. i just want to go home now. :(

I find her questions of eating well, sleeping well and not being under too much stress a silly line of questioning for the average college student. What planet is she on? Did she even GO to college? Grr....that makes me mad, Stef.

Did they do a blood test? Throat culture? Did you tell her about Nonna?

I'm thinking of you, Stef. Wish I had some better advice than just to say Grrr.

But seriously, you should take the Mucinex and Aleve. Don't mix the Aleve with other pain relievers like Tylenol or Advil (Nancy, this can cause ringing in the ears, right?). I know it's hard, but you do need some rest sweetie. I know, I know. Easier said than done. But promise us you will try.

Thanks Betsy. Thanks for looking out for me. I took a short nap just now but I don't feel any better. They did the Mono test it was negative, but she was sure its not strep throat. Also I don't feel comfortable talking to them about much else then my symptoms. I mean I don't talk to my friends about the stress from home let alone a cold doctor. Thanks again though, really.

stef,
try the aleve and the mucinex and give them a chance. aleve is basically the same as advil, motrin or ibuprofen. (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents). tylenol is acetaminophen - an analgesic (for pain)and antipyretic (for fever). aspirin is also an analgesic and antipyretic. but you don't want to load up with multiples drugs and overdose. too much of the anti-inflammatory can cause stomach upset (take with food), too much tylenol can cause liver damage, too much aspirin can cause bleeding. some people do have other side effects from mixing them like ringing in the ears. and that's probably more than you ever wanted to know about those drugs!

i agree with betsy, it's easier said than done to try to get sleep and eat well but you need to try. we all worry about you dear.

hang in there.

Now for the big question.........are you following the advice you were given? If you do and don't feel any better in a couple days please go back to the doctor.

I might add to maybe start taking some vitamin C tabs to kep your colds at bay.

I'm hoping you are resting and taking care of yourself. Please????
